The Full Story

I-CARE University–Enterprise Primary Care Innovation Hub

🔷 What is the Hub?

The Advanced Primary Care Innovation Centers (APCIs) established within the I-CARE project are central to our integrated vision of healthcare innovation. These centers serve simultaneously as physical hubs for university–enterprise collaboration and platforms for educational and clinical transformation. Rooted in the Knowledge Triangle of education, research, and innovation, each APCI brings together academic institutions, healthcare enterprises, and community actors in a sustainable ecosystem.

Rather than being a single unit, APCIs were implemented across multiple partner universities, each tailored to its local context while contributing to a shared framework of interprofessional primary care innovation.

Thus, the I-CARE Hub and Platform was created at the beginning of the project as a collaborative, interprofessional digital space to support training, service innovation, and university–enterprise engagement in primary healthcare. It connecting universities, healthcare professionals, non-academic enterprises, students, and policymakers. It was created as part of WP2 of the I-CARE Erasmus+ project, with the goal of strengthening innovation, knowledge transfer, and capacity building in primary health care (PHC).

This digital hub and the physical clinics serves as the interactive bridge between the academic and healthcare enterprise sectors. It fosters applied research, co-designed clinical practice, digital education, and collaborative service innovation. The hub supports both virtual and physical activities through:

  • Inter-professional education & training programs

  • Student-led clinical innovation

  • Digital learning platforms and toolkits

  • Collaborative coaching and consultancy

  • A growing repository of open-access resources
