Professional Diploma Modules in
Primary Care & Family Medicine

This interprofessional diploma is part of the Knowledge Triangle Education–Research (KTER) approach under the EU-funded ICARE initiative (WP4), designed to bridge academic learning, applied research, and professional practice. It addresses the growing need for innovative, problem-solving professionals in Primary Health Care (PHC) who can integrate medical, public health, and technological solutions.

The program is open to final-year students, recent graduates, and practicing professionals from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, public health, and other health sciences. It focuses on practical skills, interprofessional teamwork, and innovative care models to enhance patient safety, equity, and quality of services across communities.

Participants complete six core modules (BM1–BM6, 45 ECTS) and may choose from four elective modules (eBM1–eBM4, 15 ECTS), including a Capstone Project that applies methodology and project work to real-world PHC challenges. The diploma can be taken as:

  • Full track – 60 ECTS over 1 year (full-time) or 2 years (part-time)

  • Certificate track – 30 ECTS in targeted capacity-building modules over 6 months (full-time) or 1 year (part-time)

Learning is delivered through a flexible blend of in-person and online formats, combining interactive lectures, case-based studies, applied fieldwork, and clinical/community practice. All modules are designed in collaboration with EU and partner country universities, ensuring international standards and long-term sustainability beyond the project.
